ATLANTA "” A new scholarship directory is aimed at helping more African American students attend college.
For the second year, the 100 Black Men of Atlanta has teamed with State Farm Insurance to provide the African American Scholarship Directory.
"Our focus has been on making sure that we're providing those opportunities in those challenge communities. The ones who can afford it the least and this tool is critical to assuring that they have their path to creating a different quality of life for their children then maybe they had," said John Grant, executive director of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta.
It's a one-stop location for information on scholarships based on need, merit and specific fields of study.
"Some of the scholarships don't focus on the GPA. Maybe it's the type of activities that they have involved in. Just what they plan to major in when they go to college," said Mimi Cheek, a State Farm agent in Norcross.
Last year, they distributed more than 30,000 copies of the book. In recent months, with the latest addition, they have given away more than 10,000 copies.
